Your Body, Your Environment, and Your Chronic Pain
When a person's nerves do not respond to their environment properly and thus cause a person to suffer from a more pain than usual, it may be that nerve damage that causes Fibromyalgia. That chronic pain may not only manifest itself as aches throughout certain pain points in one's body, but it may also cause a person to suffer from sleepless nights, irritability, depression, and more.
Though, the good news is there are steps a person who suffers from Fibromyalgia symptoms can take to overcome this chronic pain and suffering. Here are some of those things you or your loved one can do to take control of their life again.
Fibromyalgia Lifestyle Changes
- Avoid situations that could cause stress
- Quit Smoking
- Seek emotional support (This will help you avoid stressful situations)
- Walking
- Biking
- Swimming
- Improve your posture
- Stretching
- Get into good sleeping habits
- Water aerobics
- Apply heat or cold pack (Ice reduces swelling and heat allows blood to flow)
All of the things listed above, with the exception of getting a good night's sleep, are choices you make to take back control of your life. Your body's nerve damage won't stop when you sleep, but you can take steps to lessen the pain during those restful hours.
Tips for a Good Night's Sleep
- Get into the routine of going to sleep and waking at the same time
- Don't drink anything four hours before you go to sleep
- Don't drink alcohol or caffeine
- Turn all lights off before you go to sleep (turn the alarm clock away from you)
- Get into bedtime routine (read before bed)
- Don't read or watch television in bed (Take your TV out of your bedroom)
Upper Cervical and Fibromyalgia
So, those are some great ways to reduce your pain, so you can get a good night's sleep, but they won't stop any nerve damage. You'll need to get to the source of your chronic pain, which may be due to a misalignment in your upper neck that may have caused a brainstem injury. An upper cervical chiropractor can examine your upper neck for any misalignments in the top two vertebrae in your neck.
Right now, whether you've been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, are suffering from chronic pain or other symptoms you think might be signs of this debilitating disease, or have recently suffered from a recent head or neck injury, the best thing you can do is make an appointment with an upper cervical chiropractor. Don't wait for the pain to manifest itself or to get worse before you do something about it. Take control of your life now before that brainstem injury takes control of you.
