ADHD
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a commonly diagnosed condition when children have a difficult time sitting still, learning, etc. According to the National Institutes of Health children with ADHD have at least six symptoms that start in the first 12 years of their lives.
Children with ADHD may:
- Get distracted easily and forget things often
- Switch too quickly from one activity to the next
- Have trouble with directions
- Daydream too much
- Have trouble finishing tasks like homework or chores
- Lose toys, books, and school supplies often
- Fidget and squirm a lot
- Talk nonstop and interrupt people
- Run around a lot
- Touch and play with everything they see
- Be very impatient
- Blurt out inappropriate comments
- Have trouble controlling their emotions.
As a general rule, modern medicine uses various prescription drugs to treat this condition. Prescriptions have nearly quadrupled in the past decade. Nearly 2.7 million children are now taking mind altering drugs for ADHD symptoms. But these drugs may be doing more harm than good. Read on to learn more.
For example, a Canadian study of 4000 kids showed that those taking ADHD medications performed worse in school than those who didn’t. And demonstrated more emotional problems than those who were untreated.
Upper Cervical Chiropractic Approach
While upper cervical chiropractic care is not a direct treatment for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, it is a treatment for injuries to the C1 and C2 vertebrae which effect the brain stem. As a result, upper cervical chiropractic care has been determined to have an astonishing effect on ADHD. Is upper cervical chiropractic care right for you or your child? Learn how some have experienced drug-free relief from symptoms.
Upper neck injuries are surprisingly common. Very often, problems with the C1 and C2 vertebrae are the result of birth injuries. The umbilical cord getting wrapped around the neck, or even extended labor, can be the cause of these injuries. Upper neck injuries can also be caused by car accidents and other trauma. Whatever the cause, a subluxation (or misalignment) of the two uppermost vertebrae can have nearly universal effects on the body.
The results are more than just neck pain. In fact, sometimes a misaligned C1 or C2 vertebrae may not even cause pain in the neck. It can, however, result in the brain stem and spinal cord having difficulty communicating with the rest of the body. Since most body functions are the result of communication from this part of the body, if something is obstructing the ability of the nervous system to work properly, the result can manifest itself in all sorts of physical and mental distress. ADHD is just one of many conditions that may improve when upper cervical chiropractic care treats, not the symptom but the root cause, the injury.
