Some interesting research done at Georgetown University Medical Center reveals a link between extreme exhaustion, chronic pain, and sinus problems. The study observed 297 people with various issues.
- 22% had chronic fatigue
- 11% had constant pain
- 9% had both chronic fatigue and pain
What was so intriguing about this study was the unusual connection between patients with chronic pain or fatigue and sinus issues. Sinus problems were much more prominent in those with fatigue and pain than those in the control group. Why is this the case?

Sinus Issues Connected to Neck Misalignments
It has been observed that sinus issues are often related to a misalignment of the C1 or C2 vertebra, the atlas and axis respectively. Even if the misalignment is very small, a ¼ of a millimeter, it can wreak havoc on the entire body. These types of misalignments can be due to a mild blow to the head or neck, a vehicle accident, or anything that overstretches the muscles in the neck. When the connective tissue in the neck weakens, it causes your spine to lock in a position of stress. The weight of the vertebrae then pull the muscles down and change the position of the other bones. The upper neck bones mentioned above are very susceptible to misaligning. Since they are located in the same area as the brainstem, it too is affected. This can lead to a change in how fluids flow to the brain, the amount of oxygen that gets passed on to the brain, and sinus issues.
Caring for Sinus Problems Naturally
As the aforementioned study pointed out, not only are the sinuses affected by a misalignment in the bones of the neck, but chronic fatigue and pain ensue. Here at Body Balance Spinal Care in Sacramento, California, we help realign these bones through a gentle method that does not require us to pop or crack the neck to get results. Once realigned, the body can heal from the damage done, and many patients see their chronic fatigue, pain, and sinus problems improve greatly or go away.
