If the median nerve, the central nerve of the wrist, is put under pressure, carpal tunnel syndrome can be the end result. There are typical symptoms that people experience when they have carpal tunnel syndrome:
- Constant pain in the hand or wrist area
- Dropping things due to muscle weakness in the hand
- Tingling and numbness in the hand or fingers (not including the pinky finger) may go from the wrist all the way up the entire arm.
Here are four ideas to consider so as to avoid causing the complications of carpal tunnel syndrome:
- Use the right tools: Proper tools make every job easier. An ergonomic keyboard and a vertical mouse may be intimidating, but after getting used to them, they will really prove to be helpful.
- Rest your wrist: If your wrist begins to feel strained or sore, stop what you are doing and take a break for a minute or so. If you rest now, you may be able to avoid weeks of rest required to recover from surgery.
- Keep proper posture: This helps the wrists to remain at the proper angle. Your hands should never be lower than your wrists when you are typing. This can prevent nerve pain, as well.
- Brace it: Using a wrist brace can help you to not overuse the muscles of the wrist that can give you problems.
Help for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
If you find yourself exhibiting some of the symptoms mentioned above, you may be able to find a measure of relief by visiting us here at Body Balance Spinal Care in Sacramento, California. As upper cervical chiropractors, we find that nerve damage can sometimes be linked back to a misalignment in the bones of the upper neck, particularly the C1 and C2 vertebrae.
The method we use to realign these bones does not require us to pop or crack the spine or the back. Rather, we use a gentle method that encourages the bones to move back into place naturally. This reduces stress and pressure on the nerves and can help ease the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome.
